Career Readiness Academy’s High School Teacher of the Year is Walt Johnson. Mr. Johnson is a dedicated educator, mentor, and motivator who brings a wealth of experience to our school. A veteran teacher who has served in multiple schools across Harrison School District 2, he is now in his second year at Career Readiness Academy as our ELA teacher. Beyond the classroom, he also plays an important role as our resident photographer, capturing the spirit of our school at various events.
What truly sets Mr. Johnson apart is his extraordinary ability to connect with students. His powerful communication skills and natural ability to build strong relationships help him bring out the best in every learner. Whether he's teaching literature or offering words of encouragement, he has a way of inspiring students to push past challenges and reach their full potential.
Before becoming an educator, Mr. Johnson proudly served 20 years in the United States Air Force - a testament to his dedication, leadership, and commitment to service. These same qualities shine through in his teaching, making a lasting impact on our students and school community.

Career Readiness Academy’s High School Education Support Professional (ESP) of the Year is Daniel Valdez. For the past three years, Daniel has been a dedicated security professional in Harrison School District 2, and this year, he has taken on the role of Head of Security at Career Readiness Academy. His commitment to safety and strong leadership ensure that both our day and night campus remain a secure and welcoming environment for students and staff.
Beyond his daily responsibilities, Daniel has played a key role in developing safety protocols and support systems that enhance the well-being of our school community. His proactive approach and attention to detail have made a significant impact, helping to create a school culture where everyone feels protected and supported.
Daniel is also a retired United States Marine, bringing with him a wealth of experience, discipline, and a deep sense of service. His dedication to our students and staff goes far beyond security—he is a mentor, protector, and valued leader within our school.

Mr. Graves is more than an exceptional Physical Education teacher—he is a leader, mentor, and advocate for student success. His commitment to teaching goes beyond physical fitness, as he integrates research-based best practices into his lessons, ensuring that students develop not only athletic skills but also critical social and emotional skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
A key figure in promoting restorative practices within our school, Mr. Graves plays a vital role in fostering a culture of understanding and support. His calm and compassionate approach provides students with the guidance they need during difficult moments, helping them navigate challenges with confidence and resilience.

On any given day, you might find her coaching students on coping skills, teaching a math lesson, or running our school store—all with a positive attitude and unwavering dedication. Despite the challenges of a high-stress environment, Bethany remains a beacon of hope and positivity, creating an atmosphere where students and staff feel supported and empowered.
